How to Write a good Headline that Attracts like this One
The first call of action it comes delivering contents is when headlines are great and attracts. To be mentioned in the registers of great bloggers that means you’re at least doing something which is right and there is no doubt having a great headline is part of that.
Copyblogger will tell you that;
Your headline is the first, and perhaps only, impression you make on a prospective reader. Without a compelling promise that turns a browser into a reader, the rest of your words may as well not even exist. So, from a copywriting and content marketing standpoint, writing great headlines is a critical skill.
Here are some interesting statistics.
On average, 8 out of 10 people will read headline copy, but only 2 out of 10 will read the rest. This is the secret to the power of your title, and why it so highly determines the effectiveness of the entire piece.
Remember, every element of compelling copy has just one purpose — to get the next sentence read. And then the sentence after that, and so on, all the way down to your call to action. So it’s fairly obvious that if people stop at the headline, you’re already dead in the water.
The better your headline, the better your odds of beating the averages and getting what you’ve written read by a larger percentage of people.
So the question therefore is; how do we write great headlines which will attract at the end? But wait, let find out what Little Johnny found himself in this time around. Little Johnny for those who don’t know him is that friend of mine who always finds himself in one mischievous act or the other.
Little Johnny was with his father when he saw his girlfriend coming. The following conversation took place:
Little Johnny: Have you come to collect your book titled;”SPEAK ENGLISH MY DAD DOESN’T UNDERSTAND IT” written by James Oval?
Girl: No, I want that our hymns called”WHERE SHOULD I WAIT FOR YOU?”
Little Johnny: I don’t have that one maybe you should take the other one ”UNDER THE MANGO TREE” by Crooks
Girl: Fine but don’t forget to bring ”I WILL CALL YOU IN 5 MINS” while coming to School
Little Johnny: I will also bring this one too ‘I WON’T LET YOU DOWN’ by Ama K.Sintsim
Dad: These books are too many. Will she read all of them?
Little Johnny: Yes dad, she is very smart.
Dad: Okay, don’t forget to give her the one on the table titled” I’M NOT STUPID, I UNDERSTOOD EVERYTHING” by Shakespeare.
Hahaha! Another Little Johnny in hot waters once more. I wonder how he is going to defend himself this time around. I guess it will be prudent to allow Little Johnny solve his own problems whiles we find ways and means of how to write good headlines that attracts like this one.
The how is what we’ve being waiting for and it is now here;
1. Know your readers
In coming up with headlines, always see yourself from the readers point of view and you can do so by knowing your audience and what they won’t. In writing headlines which attracts at the end, always bear the reader is always king and so have him in mind.
2. Ignore those heavy grammars
To be honest with you, I sometime really find it difficult reading American blogs. They have English as their main language therefore perceives everyone understands those heavy grammars they use in their headlines. But that is not the case. I for instance speak five different languages including the English Language which I had to learn from school so giving me something else which will mean I have to refer to the dictionary simply to make a meaning out it wouldn’t be a good thing. Ignore the usage of heavy grammars when writing. Please do keep that in mind.
3. Ignore the lengths and just make a point
Whiles others will be telling you always to have a short headline, others are of the view for you to have a lengthy headline. So which is which? And I will tell you to just be yourself and careless of the number of words making your headlines. What is the use of using a word like ‘awe’ in your headline which will be difficult to be understood instead of use ‘mixed feeling’ which everyone is likely to understand it?
The length of a headline doesn’t matter but what matters the most is getting the reader to read your post after the headline.
4. Follow your own Trend and forget the Rest
The fact that this Blogger or that favourite blogger of yours is going this or that direction with respect to writing his or her headlines doesn’t in anyway mean you need to follow his trend.
Just be yourself and follow your own trend and at the end, you will be unique with your ways of crafting your headlines. That is it!
The post of course wouldn’t be complete without asking for your opinion it as well. What do you make of the post and in your own estimation, how can one write a good headline that attracts?
